Biography
Eleanor Janes is a versatile soprano performing a wide range of repertoire, with regular performances around London and the UK.
Eleanor is currently performing the role of
Micaëla (Carmen) in a UK tour with Barefoot Opera and has just returned from Germany where she was performing the role of Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito) with Henfenfeld Opernakademie. Other recent operatic performances include Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice) with New Sussex Opera; Maƙenka (The Bartered Bride) with Guildford Opera; Elle (La Voix Humaine) at The Forge, Camden; Countess Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) with Ensemble OrQuesta; Mimì (La Bohème) and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) both with Cooper Hall Young Artist Programme; Hanna Glawari (The Merry Widow, cover) with Kentish Opera; Yum Yum (The Mikado) with Opera Anywhere and Park Opera and Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte) with Weimar Lyric Opera Studio.
At the start of 2019, Eleanor will be performing the role of
Marguerite (Faust).
This year, Eleanor has also had the pleasure of performing with the Longborough Festival Opera chorus in their production of
Der fliegende Holländer with Longborough Festival Opera and returned to sing with West Green House Opera in their summer productions of Madama Butterfly (performing Cousin) and Candide.
Eleanor has performed in the chorus with many notable companies such as Grange Park Opera, Opera Project, Blackheath Hall Opera and Classical Opera.
Equally at home on the concert stage, in recent years Eleanor has been selected to take part in the Oxford Lieder Master Course lead by renowned pianist Roger Vignoles. Most recently Eleanor has performed a recital as part of The London Opera Festival, performing a poignant recital featuring composers affected by the Holocaust. Eleanor has performed several recitals throughout London, most recently at The Old Naval Chapel, Blackheath Halls and Faversham Assembly Rooms.
Recent oratorio performances include Symphony No. 9 (Beethoven); Gloria (Vivaldi); St. John Passion, Magnificat (Bach); Messiah, Dixit Dominus (Handel); Requiem (Mozart); Requiem (Fauré); Negro Spirituals (Tippet). She has performed with The London Chorus, Blackheath Chorus and Ad Solem.
Eleanor has enjoyed notable success at many competitions, having been selected as a finalist at the Elisabeth Schumann Lieder and Dean and Chadlington Singing Competition, and also as a semi-finalist of Trinity Laban Soloist Competition. Eleanor was selected as a Young Artist for The European Opera Centre, and has sung in masterclasses with John Mark Ainsley, Ryland Davies, Laurent Pillot, Della Jones, Yvonne Minton and Matthew Rose.
She currently studies with Theresa Goble, and has recently gained a Master of Music degree, graduating with distinction from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she studied with Laureen Livingstone.
With a passion for performing new works Eleanor has collaborated with several young composers, most recently with the award winning British composer, 
Chris Roe. Eleanor was a member of the Contemporary Music Group at Trinity Laban and hopes to continue working with contemporary composers.
